Bistek Tagalog is a classic Filipino dish made with thinly sliced beef that is marinated and cooked with onions and soy sauce. Here's a simple recipe for Bistek Tagalog:
Ingredients:
- 1 lb thinly sliced beef (sirloin or flank steak)
- 1/2 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup calamansi juice (or lemon juice)
- 1 tsp ground black pepper
- 1 large onion, sliced into rings
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tbsp cooking oil
Instructions:
- In a bowl, mix together the soy sauce, calamansi juice (or lemon juice), and black pepper. Add the sliced beef and marinate for at least 30 minutes.
- In a pan, heat the cooking oil over medium-high heat. Add the onions and sauté until softened and lightly caramelized. Remove the onions from the pan and set aside.
- In the same pan, add the marinated beef (reserving the marinade) and garlic. Cook until the beef is browned on both sides.
- Pour in the reserved marinade and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and let it simmer until the sauce thickens.
- Add the sautéed onions back into the pan and stir to combine.
- Serve hot with steamed rice.
Enjoy your delicious Bistek Tagalog!
