Ingredients:

  • 1 lb thinly sliced beef (sirloin or flank steak)
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup calamansi juice (or lemon juice)
  • 1 tsp ground black pepper
  • 1 large onion, sliced into rings
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp cooking oil

Instructions:

  1. In a bowl, mix together the soy sauce, calamansi juice (or lemon juice), and black pepper. Add the sliced beef and marinate for at least 30 minutes.
  2. In a pan, heat the cooking oil over medium-high heat. Add the onions and sauté until softened and lightly caramelized. Remove the onions from the pan and set aside.
  3. In the same pan, add the marinated beef (reserving the marinade) and garlic. Cook until the beef is browned on both sides.
  4. Pour in the reserved marinade and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and let it simmer until the sauce thickens.
  5. Add the sautéed onions back into the pan and stir to combine.
  6. Serve hot with steamed rice.

Enjoy your delicious Bistek Tagalog!
