Chop Suey

Chop Suey is a Chinese-inspired dish that has been adapted and popularized in many countries, including the Philippines. Here's a recipe for Chop Suey Pilipino-style:

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 lb pork, sliced into thin pieces
  • 1/2 lb chicken, sliced into thin pieces
  • 1/4 lb shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1/4 lb squid, cleaned and sliced into rings
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 2 cups cabbage, sliced
  • 1 cup carrots, sliced
  • 1 cup green beans, sliced
  • 1 cup snow peas
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste


Instructions:

  1. Heat the vegetable oil in a large wok or pan over medium-high heat.
  2. Add the garlic and onion, and sauté until the onion is translucent.
  3. Add the pork and chicken, and stir-fry until browned.
  4. Add the shrimp and squid, and stir-fry until they turn pink.
  5. Add the cabbage, carrots, green beans, and snow peas, and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until the vegetables are slightly tender.
  6. In a small bowl, mix together the chicken broth, oyster sauce, soy sauce, and cornstarch. Pour this mixture into the wok and stir well.
  7. Allow the mixture to come to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens.
  8. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  9. Serve hot with steamed rice.
