Champorado

Champorado is a sweet chocolate rice porridge that is popular in the Philippines. It is a comforting and delicious breakfast or snack, especially on a chilly day. Here is a simple recipe to make champorado at home:

champorado

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup glutinous rice (also known as sticky rice)
  • 4 cups water
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup evaporated milk
  • Optional toppings: condensed milk, whipped cream, or sliced banana

Directions:

  1. Rinse the glutinous rice in a strainer until the water runs clear.
  2. In a large pot, combine the rice and 4 cups of water. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
  3. Reduce the heat to low and let the rice simmer for 20-25 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
  4. Once the rice is cooked and most of the water has been absorbed, add the cocoa powder and sugar to the pot. Stir until everything is well combined.
  5. Add the evaporated milk to the pot and stir until the champorado is smooth and creamy.
  6. Serve the champorado in bowls and top with your desired toppings, such as condensed milk, whipped cream, or sliced banana.

Enjoy your warm and comforting bowl of champorado!
