Halo-halo

Halo-halo is a popular Filipino dessert that literally means "mix-mix". It is a refreshing dessert that is perfect for hot and humid weather. Here's a simple recipe for you:

halo halo

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups shaved ice
  • 1/2 cup evaporated milk
  • 1/4 cup condensed milk
  • 1/2 cup cooked sweet beans (munggo, garbanzos or kidney beans)
  • 1/2 cup sweetened banana (saba)
  • 1/2 cup cooked sweet potato, cubed
  • 1/2 cup ripe jackfruit, cubed
  • 1/2 cup cooked tapioca pearls
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • Pinch of salt
  • Ube Halaya or purple yam jam
  • Leche flan or caramel custard, sliced

Instructions:

  1. Prepare all the ingredients by cooking and cubing the sweet potato, boiling the beans and tapioca pearls and slicing the banana and jackfruit.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, add the shaved ice, evaporated milk, condensed milk, sugar, and a pinch of salt. Mix well until the sugar has dissolved and the mixture is well combined.
  3. Add the sweet beans, sweet potato, banana, jackfruit, and tapioca pearls. Mix everything together until evenly distributed.
  4. Add a generous amount of ube halaya on top and slice the leche flan and add it on top as well.

Serve the halo-halo immediately and enjoy!

Note: You can adjust the sweetness of the halo-halo to your liking by adding more or less sugar and condensed milk. You can also add other ingredients such as nata de coco, macapuno, or sweet corn.
